We spoke with Ceri Davies, Executive Producer of the Melbourne office, about the irreplaceable value of professional human voiceovers within their recording studio and why EM Voices are the full package.
“As an EP for Squeak E Clean Studios, I’m not only responsible for producing jobs for our clients, but I also oversee the business and the facility. I could be casting voiceovers, invoicing, scheduling, liaising with technicians for repairs, or making cheese boards and cocktails – it’s a great job, and a busy one.

Jane and the crew are quick, responsive, they know their people and what they’re doing – and it’s all supported by a great website, with regularly updated voiceover demos and info. The process is so quick – all I need is an email with all the details I have on the job, who I need, and a time.”

“Jane is also my sounding board for rate negotiations, legal questions – especially with the introduction, or AI and protecting actor’s IP – we even have chats about what music or theatre we’re seeing. We love seeing performers – we go to the theatre, and see live music, and drink up all the culture that’s on offer around Melbourne, to keep our thinking fresh.
Everybody wants that new, unique, never-before-used voice…and you never know where you’ll discover it. One of the most fun things about casting against a brief, is thinking a bit left-of-field, in case someone interesting pops up. Anything from a different age or accent…even just an ‘energy’.
Our favourite voiceover artists are those that love the process – and love to play around a bit. There are usually a few opinions in a record session – so being happy to bounce around and try things out is gold. I think AI voiceovers might be a bit of a challenge to navigate over the next few years – but I hope that we all recognise the irreplaceable value of working creatively with humans. It’s such a collaborative thing.”
